Services for transfer students

Transfer advising is designed to prepare students for a successful transition to a four-year college or university. Our goal is to provide you with the advising tools and resources that are necessary for navigating the transfer process.

If you intend to transfer to a university, the transfer advisors (along with University & College Transfer) can offer you the following:

  • Overview of the transfer timeline and process from exploring majors to university transfer
  • Resources and information (university websites, course equivalency guides, and admissions deadlines)
  • Calendar of university and Green River transfer events, including transfer fairs and workshops

Institution Admissions Language Requirement Graduation Language Requirement
University of Washington

For transfers with less than 40 quarter credits by the application deadline, Admissions requires completion of two years of high school or the second quarter of college elementary world language. For students with more than 40 quarter credits by the deadline we do not need or require them to meet our admissions minimums (CADRs).

On the UW Seattle campus, all majors in the College of Arts & Sciences and the School of Social Work require completion of either three years of high school or the third quarter of college elementary world language to graduate. Information about this requirement can be found on the Undergraduate Academic Affairs 鈥 Advising website.
It is strongly recommended that high school/Running Start applicants to Saint Martin鈥檚 complete an academic program that includes two years of a world language before admission to the university. Bachelor of Arts students must complete four semester hours (Core140) of one World Language. Bachelor of Science students are not required to complete a language for graduation but can choose to take classes if they wish. Transfer students who come to Saint Martin's University with an approved DTA degree (Associate of Arts, Associate of Pre-Nursing, etc.) fulfill the World Language graduation requirement.

2 credits of the same world language, Native American language or American Sign Language.

While we do like to see and highly encourage two courses of global language before applying, it does not prohibit a student from applying if they have not completed those courses. Transfer students may use transfer credit to count for one or both courses. Each approved transfer course must be a minimum of 4 quarter credits or 3 semester credits.
- Taking two 1-credit language courses in Chinese, French, German, Greek, Japanese, Latin, or Spanish that are taught in the target language. Two courses are required for all students, with the following exceptions:
- Students with a high school diploma from a school where the primary language of instruction was other than English do not need to take further courses.
- Heritage learners (defined by Vald茅s, 2001 as 鈥渁 student of language who is raised in a home where a non-English language is spoken, who speaks or merely understands the heritage language, and who is to some degree bilingual in English and the heritage language鈥) are required to take only one course.
- Students with AP language exam scores of 4 or 5 or IB higher level language scores of 5, 6, or 7 are required to take only one course.
- Transfer students may use transfer credit to count for one or both courses. Each approved transfer course must be a minimum of 4 quarter credits or 3 semester credits.
First Year applicants and Running Start students need to have 2 years of a world language (could be ASL). Transfer students are not required to complete any world language in order to be considered for admission. All majors in the College of Arts and Science need to complete either 2 years of a world language in high school or 1 year of a world language in college. It is important to confirm with the departments you are applying to in order to determine graduation requirements for the degree you are seeking.
